Dead end started for Musharraf

Bowing to the stiff pressure from western Godfather and international community over his long time stay as army general, Pakistani General and present President Pervez Musharraf handed over his prestigious baton to his colleague from army. This move added a unique chapter in Pakistani history of ruling generals. No one spontaneously laid down their arms so far. His decision had been considered the ultimate end of eight long years of his rule following bloodless military coup against then Prime Minister Nawab Sharif. His tenure remains full of controversies. His pro-American approach and anti-Taliban stand make him vulnerable against Fundamentalist and Islamic extremist. However, he still enjoys indirect support from general Pakistani people due to his administration’s tough initiative for moderate Pakistani society.
When he took over power from Sharif, Pakistan was armed with deadly nuclear weapons. And couple of years back it had large-scale military confrontation with India in Kargil region of J&K. His sudden decision to expel Sharif and assume all powers make world to look at Pakistani developments anxiously. It was usual affairs for Pakistani people because they have seen several generals coming out to head their country. Such tradition has been intact there from so many years. Even some Pakistani came out openly to welcome his decision and distributed sweets to showcase their happiness.
Musharraf remained American loyalist to ease pressure from International community. Terrorist attack on American twin tower came as shot in arm as Pakistan was the only American ally who could pave the way for American army to march straightly to doors of Afghanistan. Talibanis were allegedly ruling Afghan region at that time. Osama-bin-laden the mastermind of merciless terrorist attack on twin tower was hiding in Afghanistan. American so called war against terrorism bring bunch of potential opportunities. Musharraf was very cleaver to utilize this situation in order to retrieve funds from America and extend his rule. Left with no option America had to blindly believe Musharraf. He extracted numerous military deals to boost up his military might. These popularized deals facilitated him to put one more credit to his achievements in the eyes of general people.
Some time he had to act under the American pressure but he labeled it as friendship gesture. His move against militants hide out in Lal Majid literally irked Pakistani conservative society and pro-Taliban supporters. They carried out several suicide attacks on political and military leaders to show their strength. In fact, some Baluch faction supporting Taliban open arm movement against Pakistani military. Frequent terrorist attack triggered a fear of same fate for Pakistan what the Iraq now have after cruel Saddam rule.
Politician like Benzir Butto and Nawab Sharif sense the gravity of situation and came down to Pakistan to launch one more front against him. Finally he decided to hand over his military power to his subordinate general and loyalist. Now he assumed Presidentship to take constitutional cover. But fear of deadly attack still loom over his head. He is in the eye of the storm and terrorist anytime targets him. They may hit at him after his eventual retirement. They are just waiting for convenient opportunity…
